“At 64 lbs, the bike is still very heavy to pick up.”
“Experts find maneuvering the bike a challenge due to the high weight and bulk.”

Review Summaries
“This is a good entry-level fat-tire e-bike for those looking for speed and the ability to take on any climb on their commute.”
“Riding with the 7-speed bike gearing and motorized pedal assist system, this bike has the gusto to take you to a lot of places other e-bikes can’t. One thing we would like to see, however, is for Mokwheel to take a look at is some of the ghost pedaling that kicks in around 23-34 mph. It’s a common issues we see on a lot of class 3 bikes.”
“There’s a reason this bike has been on our list of the Best Fat Tire e-bikes since we reviewed the first model; when combined with its optional power inverter and solar panels, riders no longer need a home base to return to! Adventuring potential is only limited by the quantity of supplies the bike can hold (but there are accessories to expand that as well).”
“The Mokwheel Asphalt eBike stands out as an excellent choice for both practical commuting and enjoyable leisure rides. Its combination of design, functionality, and value, along with the incredible accessory packages, makes it a top contender in the ebike market.”
“I really wanted to love Mokwheel’s Mesa Lite despite what you read above. If I had confidence that the eBike was assembled properly it would have helped mightly to get there. Even though the bike looks just like the pictures of the assembled bike on their site, there is enough play in the steering column that makes the Mesa feel unsafe to ride. Combine that with the limited range and odd choice of a thumb throttle for full motor mode doesn’t make the eBike a compelling purchase.”
“It’s not hard to make a good commuter e-bike. What is hard is to make a commuter e-bike that stands out, that rises above the static, as we like to say. With the Mokwheel Asphalt, shoppers have the opportunity to pick up a quality commuter, but with the DNA of a higher-performance e-bike hiding inside.”
“The Mokwheel Basalt is a fat-tire e-bike available as a step-over or step-through. Reviewers are impressed by its powerful motor, range, responsive throttle and pedal assist, and comfort. However, they encounter problems with their test bikes, such as a faulty battery, a loose crank arm, and a fragile seatpost QR lever.”
“The Mokwheel Obsidian is an excellent choice for those looking for a full suspension, fat tire e-bike, that is capable of handling virtually all types of terrain. The price point is competitive, the build quality is excellent, and the Ebike is solar ready.”
“In just a few words, the Mokwheel Obsidian ($2,399.99) impressed us. It’s obvious that Mokwheel is making huge strides here and stepped up to the challenge of building a very capable full-suspension ebike that doesn’t fall flat or cut corners. To us, the Obsidian is well worth the $2,399 sticker price and is an exciting alternative to higher-priced models for the mountain bikers out there that ride on rough terrain.”
“After over 307 miles and exploring every feature, my Mokwheel Asphalt has proven to be more than just an e-bike; it’s a reliable companion on the road. The blend of safety features, comfort, and the innovative torque sensing system has transformed my urban commutes into enjoyable adventures.”
“The Mokwheel Mesa Plus ST is an exceptional micromobility vehicle that combines durability, versatility, and style. With its high-quality components and robust build, it offers a reliable and efficient riding experience. The impressive range and speed add excitement to your rides, while the Shimano 7-speed transmission system ensures adaptability to various terrains.”
“Overall, the Basalt has impressed us with a powerful drive unit and a large battery that offers plenty of range. The Power Inverter option is very cool and something we haven’t seen before with other bikes.”
“The Mokwheel Basalt stands out in the crowded fat tire market with its torque sensor, inverter/solar options, and high top speed. It is a solid ebike even without the solar panels, but with them, it’s an exciting venture into what ebikes can offer beyond just a powered ride. Though the additional cost for solar and inverter options is significant, the utility and sustainability they bring to the table are invaluable. Mokwheel is a brand we’re curious to explore further, and the Basalt has left a promising impression.”
“I like the Mokwheel Asphalt and think it is a very good value at $1499. It has good performance and range. The torque sensor works well at giving you a smooth ride that is easy to control. I would prefer it have Altus or Acera components. Tourney is understandable given the price point they hit with the bike. If you want a commuter or cruiser ebike and don’t want to spend over $1500. The Mokwheel Asphalt is a great pick.”
“The Mokwheel Slate is a good folding ebike for anyone who wants or needs a compact, easy to store and transport bike. It is a fun and sporty feeling to ride. It has good power and range for a 500 watt bike. The torque sensor could use a little more refinement. At 64 lbs, don’t expect it to be super light to pick up for loading and unloading. Overall, Slate is a good performer, and we feel good about recommending it.”
